Cleaning Ela Beach and other public places

13:15 Jun 16 2011 Ela Beach, Port Moresby

Description
From Paul Barker

Ela Beach has not been cleaned for 2 1/2 months at least...the (broken) bags from the last voluntary beach clean up are still there...the plastic bags, bottle tops etc at low tide this morning are revolting. If NCD cannot do anything get together and pay the Pom street kids to clean it up (with bags, plastic gloves and rakes) for just an hour a day - a team of them to earn good pocket money (before school -for those in school and to contribute to school/livelihoods)..we could help supervise and help get those involved into school..i.e. it's not child labour but provides some practical support...it could be repeated in other public places by the local community, although we shouldn't let NCD off the hook!
